Macy's, Inc.

Financial Planning Intern

June - July 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Well organized, lots of social activities, really fun and engaging internship. Leave work at 1pm on Fridays.

What I wish was different

Macy's has a very laid back culture which is nice although at times I was left without work and felt very unchallenged intellectually.

Advice

Put in the work and show up and you'll have an offer.

Product Development Intern

June - July 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved everyone that I worked with on my team, and I felt like I made an actual contribution to the product line my team was developing.

What I wish was different

I wish that there were more opportunities for me to interact with other interns to create substantial friendships for the future.

Advice

Be honest with your supervisor, and share that you are willing to do any work that will make an actual contribution to the product line. You rather be busy and have the day go by, rather than be given no work because your supervisor doesn't think you're that interested.

It was a very well structured program that gave the opportunity to explore many functions of the business. They also plan a variety of tasks and activities for the interns such as a group project, seminars, senior level exposure, in-office time and fun outings.

What I wish was different

Not sure that I would change anything.

Advice

Be open to learning from everyone in the company, be curious and ask lots of questions!

Sales Management Intern

June - August 2018 • Oakbrook Terrace, IL

What I liked

I liked how I was able to be in a leadership position and be able impact the company while learning business acumen and learning how to analyze multiple different reports.

What I wish was different

The one thing I wish that would have been different is the location, I would've liked to be in the city with my friends.

Advice

My biggest advice is be ready to come into work everyday with a positive attitude and to learn. There wasn't a day where I didn't learn a lot or further my skills.

Corporate Communications Intern

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

Never be afraid to bring your creative and diverse perspective to the table. I was nervous about being the only student of color, in a space that I've only known to be dominated by white males. As I spent more time, I started meeting more people who looked like me in such important positions. It inspired me to speak up in meetings and share more of my ideas. I ended up bringing a different view into the conversation, that ended up being super helpful.

Buying and Merchandising Intern

June - July 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Very organized intern program, hands-on experience, chances to interact with many different departments in the company, transparency about return offers.

What I wish was different

Higher pay

Advice

Ask a lot of questions and try to soak up everything you are told from your peers and managers. A lot of the resources and projects you work on are completely knew and not taught at Questrom so asking questions is key to performing well in the job and getting a return offer!
