Seattle Children's RN Residency Program - August 2021 Cohort

Seattle Children's is excited to announce our application is now OPEN through May 16th for our RN Residency Program. This program is designed to support new grad nurses with less than 1 year of nursing experience transition into a high functioning nursing position in one of the top pediatric hospitals in the nation. In addition to the duties and responsibilities described in the Job Summary, the Nurse Resident will participate in didactic training, leadership development, mentoring, and teamwork to support transition into practice. Additional information about the residency program can be found on our RN Residency website. 


Required Credentials:
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) or higher
  • Washington State RN license must be current and active no later than Friday, July 30th, 2021 in order to be considered for the Monday, August 2nd, 2021 start date.
  • BLS for Health Care Providers is to be maintained at all times by all nurses unless specifically noted below. Note: current PALS and/or PEARS will be accepted in lieu of BLS, and must be maintained as current at all times. Employees are responsible for any costs (including time away from work) associated with obtaining PALS or PEARS certification if it is not a requirement of the position. (ACLS will not be accepted as a substitute to the requirements listed above.)
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) may be required depending on department.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required for all Resident Nurses in the following areas and you will have up to 6 months to obtain PALS if required by department. PALS is required for Resident Nurses in the following areas: Emergency Department, Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU), Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU), Cardiac Intensive Care (CICU), Recovery Room (PACU) and the Operating Room (OR).
  • Chemotherapy Biotherapy Provider Card from the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) is required within 180 days of employment for nurses working in the following departments: Acute Care Float Pool, Cancer Care, and Hematology/Oncology departments and must be maintained at all times. Training classes are provided by Seattle Children's as needed.
  • As per the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), for RN's performing moderately complex point of care testing, a copy of a diploma or transcript of the highest level of academic achievement to be on record with Human Resources upon hire.
  • All Resident Nurse positions require an on-call component. Frequency is variable depending on department requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher nursing degree
  • Clinical experience working with pediatric population

Our upcoming RN Residency Cohort will start on Monday, August 2nd, 2021. 

All candidates who are selected for an interview will need to be available for the interview day held remotely via video conference call on Friday, June 4th, 2021.   We will only have one interview day available.
 
For the August 2021 Cohort, the following departments will be hiring Resident RNs:
  • Acute Care Float Pool
  • Ambulatory Unit
  • Cancer Care Unit
  • Medical Unit
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
  • Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit (PBMU)
  • Rehabilitation Unit
  • Surgical Unit

Some departments may only have part-time positions available (24-32 hours per week)
Some departments will have more full-time positions available (36 hours per week)
Shifts available will vary depending on department. We have the following shifts available: day shift, night shift, evening shift and day/night rotating shifts.

The BASE salary for this position is $36.21 per hour, plus applicable shift differentials. Most of the RN Residency positions are between 36-40 hours per week. This is a union represented role with annual wage increases, fantastic benefits, and great work life balance.
