Legislative Affairs Specialist

Job Summary
This position is located in the Office of Government Relations (OGR) within the Office of the Chief of Staff in the Office of the Director at DC Health. The mission of OGR is to promote health, wellness, equity and sound public health policy across the District of Columbia by acting as a liaison between DC Health and governmental personnel and officials and serving as a leading resource in the development of legislation and regulations affecting the residents, visitors and those doing business in the District of Columbia.

Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent serves as legislative affairs specialist with direct report to the supervisory legislative specialist (the Director of the Office of Government Relations, Director) and Chief of Staff on matters concerning legislation, and requests from the Council of the District of Columbia on legislative matters affecting DC Health.

The incumbent provides a broad range of legislative support. He or she assists with the coordination and analysis of the development of new legislation and tracking of District and Federal legislative proposals. The incumbent is responsible for assisting in the maintenance of a comprehensive data retrieving system and for tracking and updating relevant legislation pertaining to issues of significance to DC Health. The incumbent serves as a liaison, working across the six agency administrations to develop and coordinate responses to inquiries from government partners, proposed resolutions and legislation impacting DC Health. He or she assists the Director by maintaining a close liaison with communications staff to relate such information, ensuring preparation of public statements in a timely manner. The incumbent monitors legislation and resolutions of the Council of the District of Columbia that impact the mission of DC Health.

The incumbent monitors legislation and resolutions of the Council of the District of Columbia that impact the mission of DC Health.

Qualifications and Education
Candidate must have at least one (1) year of the specialized experience must be equivalent to the CS-12 grade level in the District of Columbia government service. The incumbent must be skilled in the Microsoft office suite and have experience analyzing data.
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Health Policy, or closely related field is preferred, plus five (5) years of specialized experience performing duties related to the position is highly preferred.

The work is performed in an adequately lighted climate-controlled office. May require occasional travel.

Pay: $87,703.00 - $113,002.00 per year
