Social Worker/Social Worker, Senior

THE POSITION
The Behavioral Health area is seeking to hire a Social Worker or a Senior Social Worker in an effort to better serve individuals with substance use disorder, mental health, and/or other social service needs and who are at risk of being booked into the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility on low level offenses. This role provides an opportunity for individuals to have a timely connection to resources at the Hennepin County Behavioral Health Clinic. This position will collaborate with the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, Minneapolis City Attorney's Office, Public Defender’s Office, and Hennepin County Behavioral Health.

This position will work primarily with adults who are brought into the Public Safety Facility and will assist in early identification and intervention for individuals presenting with mental health, substance use, or other social service needs. This is a critical strategy to prevent hospitalizations, civil commitment and the over representation of persons with mental illness in the criminal justice system.

Social Worker $57,225.27 - $71,247.95 Annually 
Senior Social Worker $58,179.28 - $83,801.71 Annually   

Location and hours:
This position will require travel throughout various cities in Hennepin County. Work hours are currently daytime hours, Monday through Friday. As clinic hours expand, work hours will primarily be 2 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. Hours may vary slightly as job requires.
 
About the position type:
This position is a full-time, benefit earning, grant funded position. 
 
In this position, you will:      
  • Interview and complete an assessment of needs with individuals who have complex needs.
  • Prepare social histories, complete and/or verify diagnostic information, work with individuals to develop goals/service plans, make referrals to community services, and connect individuals to current supports.
  • Assist with forms/applications for benefits, applications for services, determine eligibility, and provide information on community resources.
  • Work closely with individuals in the community, local law enforcement, probation officers, corrections staff, attorneys, community providers, and others. 

Need to have:
  • For hire as a Social Worker, one of the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, human services, or equivalent field
  • Licensed as a Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
  • For hire as a Senior Social Worker, one of the following:
  • Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field with course work emphasis in areas such as social work methods, human growth and behavior, and principles or social welfare.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and at least 27 quarter credits of graduate work in the above areas, and three years or more of full-time supervised experience as a social worker.
  • Licensed as a Graduate Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
  • A valid driver's license and daily access to reliable transportation to travel throughout Hennepin County.

  • Experience working with:
  • Adults experiencing mental health needs.
  • Adults experiencing substance use disorders.
  • Individuals who are involved in the criminal justice system.
  • Current Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) in the state of Minnesota.
  • Recognition and respect for culture differences and ability to give culturally appropriate services.
  • Knowledge of county and community resources that support mental health, medical, and substance use needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, computer, and person-centered interviewing skills.
  • Ability to function well in unpredictable and challenging situations calling for sensitivity, flexibility, resourcefulness, and independent judgment.
