Second Grade Teacher
We are currently seeking a second grade teacher for the 2021-22 school year at Joaquin Miller Elementary School in Oakland. Joaquin Miller is a public elementary school located in the Piedmont Pines neighborhood of Oakland, California. Our 442 students represent every neighborhood in Oakland and we take pride in the many ethnicities, cultures, languages, family structures, gender identities, and abilities represented in our school community.
We have a robust range of special education programs and a strong focus on social-emotional learning. Teachers, staff, and families are starting the necessary work of examining our own identities and sources of privilege. We have formed an Equity Team, led by teachers of color and their white co-conspirators, who are committed to dismantling racism at Joaquin Miller. The Equity Team, in partnership with the PTA and the JM staff, is supporting moderated discussions on race, targeted professional development, equity-driven community events, and updated anti-racist classroom curricula and materials.
