Business Systems Analyst I/II (2 openings)

SUMMARY:
The Transmission & Distribution Business Systems Analyst position bridges the worlds of business processes, business systems, and business intelligence. With duties ranging from facilitating workflow discussions and defining business system requirements to developing data models for dashboards and metrics, the ideal candidate for this position is someone who has:
  • Curiosity to learn about how things work and how to improve them, using various technologies (web, servers, applications),
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills,
  • The ability to be flexible and handle multiple work projects and priorities,
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities or experience leading projects, and
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Facilitate process improvement initiatives for the department.
  • Provide support for project development initiatives, including planning, research, design, testing, documentation, training, and implementation of initiatives based upon user-defined business requirements.
  • Independently manage multiple large and complex projects that may cross many applications and user areas, including system implementations and upgrade initiatives.
  • Communicate initiatives with process owners and management regarding issues and improvement recommendations throughout the life of a project.
  • Maintain knowledge base for business systems and data in order to create process improvements, as well as business intelligence solutions to aid in problem solving and decision making.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for improvement through automation, simplification and standardization.
  • Establish and maintain internal and external relationships to positively affect results.
  • Interface between CTS and T&D business users for the development and implementation of new systems and enhancement of existing systems.
  • Interface with other internal departments and vendors to achieve desired project results and minimize system failures.
  • Identify and implement training programs for department to facilitate learning and create more efficient work processes.
  • Research emerging issues and technologies to improve procedures and processes.
  • Advocate and support core values, principles and strategic focus of Minnesota Power, Operations and ALLETE leadership.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor’s degree require
  • Candidates who will have a degree completed by June 2020 will be considered.
  • Preferred degree in Math, Analytics, Business, Data Science, Economics, Finance, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or related field. 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Business Systems Analyst I:
  • No experience required.

Business Systems Analyst II:
  • Three years of job-related experience require
  • Including experience in gathering and documenting business requirements, reviewing solutions, and analyzing business processes and systems.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Process analysis / process improvement, including Lean Six Sigma
  • Project coordination / project management
  • Business Intelligence applications, such as Microsoft Power BI, or simply Excel
  • Data summary and visualization / telling stories or solving problems with data

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience in designing reporting data models and a thorough understanding of table relationships within databases is required.
  • Depending upon assigned area, this position may require travel.
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.
