Fort Snelling Site Guide

The Minnesota Historical Society is now hiring for site guide positions at Historic Fort Snelling for the 2020 season. Historic Fort Snelling is located at Bdote on Dakota homeland with history spanning 10,000 years. We are looking for prospective employees with interests in a wide range of areas including indigenous and Native American history, American slavery, African American history, labor and class, immigration, fur trade, military history, women’s history and Japanese American history in Minnesota. Candidates with knowledge of the Dakota or Japanese languages would be especially helpful. Our program offers opportunities for site guides to tell a diverse range of history including that of treaties between the Dakota and the US government, the US-Dakota War of 1862, history of slavery, the African American soldiers in the post-Civil War Twenty-fifth Infantry unit, the military Japanese language school in WWII, and others.
