SALARY:                   $14.42 hourly minimum 
 
STATUS & HOURS:    Part-time, regular (520 annual hours) position.  
Hours average 26 per week May through August. 
Inconsistent hours March, April, September and October.
BENEFITS:                Eligible to participate in retirement program with employer contribution.

DESCRIPTION: The Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) seeks applicants to conduct various military interpretive programs, provide customer service to visitors of Historic Fort Snelling and its programs, and assist in the daily operation of the Fort.
 
SUMMARY OF WORK: 1) conduct workshops, tours, and programs, communicating historical information using multiple interpretive techniques (45%); 2) work in areas of program that require special skills and/or training (10%); 3) receive, welcome and orient visitors to the historic site or station, from assigned work area (20%); 4) study assigned or site-relevant historical materials to enhance the delivery of site’s interpretive program (15%); and 5) assist in the maintenance and protection of the historic site grounds, facility and collections (10%).
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
●    Background studies in or strong interest in any of the following: Military History/ Socio-cultural, Tech. & Skills/ Public History &/or Anthropology, Native American History/ Socio-cultural, African American History/ Socio-cultural, Japanese American History/ Socio-cultural.
●    Strong oral communication skills, ability to listen and be responsive to questions and comments.
●   Demonstrated reliability and ability to provide consistent, quality customer service.
●   Demonstrated ability to collaborate and contribute positively in a team environment
●   Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse public in a friendly and open manner, while conveying information or teaching.
●   Willingness to complete Firearms Safety Certification.
●   Required to lift and carry files and objects weighing up to 50 pounds; partner lift with anything more than 50 pounds; team lift with anything 100 pounds or more.
●   Required to have 20/20 vision (corrective lenses ok), healthy depth perception and peripheral vision to determine safe firing range.
●   Ability to and for extended periods of time and walk up to 5 miles a day in heat, cold, rain, and snow.
●   Flexibility to work a varied schedule of weekdays and weekends from May through August.
  
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
●   High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
●   Willingness to participate in costumed interpretive programming. Gender, race, ethnicity, and age do not affect what areas an interpreter can work in.
●    Knowledge of military material culture.
●    Knowledge of firearms technology and/or flint to gas operation.
●   Experience in K-12 education.
●   Knowledge of historic children’s games.
