SALARY: $14.42 hourly minimum
STATUS & HOURS: Part-time, regular (520 annual hours) position.
Hours average 26 per week May through August.
Inconsistent hours March, April, September and October.
BENEFITS: Eligible to participate in retirement program with employer contribution.

DESCRIPTION: The Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) seeks applicants to conduct various interpretive programs, provide customer service to visitors of Historic Fort Snelling and its programs, and assist in the daily operation of the Fort.
SUMMARY OF WORK: 1) conduct workshops, tours, and programs, communicating historical information using multiple interpretive techniques (55%); 2) receive, welcome and orient visitors to the historic site or station, from assigned work area (20%); 3) study assigned or site-relevant historical materials to enhance the delivery of site’s interpretive program (15%); and 4) assist in the maintenance and protection of the historic site grounds, facility and collections (10%).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
● Background studies in or strong interest in any of the following: Public History &/or Anthropology, Native American History/ Socio-cultural, African American History/ Socio-cultural, Japanese American History/ Socio-cultural, Skilled Labor History/ Socio-cultural, Tech. & Skills.
● Strong oral communication skills, ability to listen and be responsive to questions and comments.
● Demonstrated reliability and ability to provide consistent, quality customer service.
● Demonstrated ability to collaborate and contribute positively in a team environment.
● Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse public in a friendly and open manner, while conveying information or teaching.
● Willingness to complete Health Safety training.
● Required to lift and carry and objects weighing up to 25 pounds; partner lift with anything more than 25 pounds; team lift with anything 50 pounds or more.
● Ability to and for extended periods of time and walk up to 5 miles a day in heat, cold, rain, and snow.
● Flexibility to work a varied schedule of weekdays and weekends from May through August.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
● High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
● Education background in any of the following: Public History &/or Anthropology, Native American History/ Socio-cultural, African American History/ Socio-cultural, Japanese American History/ Socio-cultural, Skilled Labor History/ Socio-cultural, Tech. & Skills.
● Experience in K-12 education.
● Experience providing supervision or general management.
● Knowledge of basic clothing, tool, or cookware maintenance
● Knowledge of or skills in historic food preparation.
● Knowledge of historic children’s games.
● Experience in basic program research, development, and writing.
