Accountant - Office of Budget & Finance

THE POSITION
The Office of Budget and Finance is seeking an entry-level Accountant who will perform general accounting duties using PeopleSoft Financials.

Effective January 5, 2020, there will be a general salary adjustment of 2.5% to the minimum and maximum of the range.
 
Location and hours:
This position is located in the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487. Work hours will typically be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. 
 
About the position type:
This position is a full-time, benefit earning position.  
 
In this position, you will:         
  • Prepare a wide variety of financial schedules, reports and work papers.
  • Prepare and process accurate journal entries and other system transactions; audit transactions to verify compliance with policies.
  • Perform routine reconciliation and analysis of various general ledger accounts such as suspense, allocated cost, interfund, and receivable accounts.
  • Provide excellent customer service and back-up assistance to coworkers and departments needing ad hoc support for routine communications and tasks.
  • Provide basic work direction and training to employees engaged in paraprofessional or clerical accounting activities.
 
Need to have:
  • One of the following:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, business administration with an emphasis in accounting, finance, and/or another related area.
  • Four or more years of professional accounting experience.
 
Nice to have:   
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications and PeopleSoft Financials or a similar electronic financial system.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ability to:
  • Handle multiple priorities with minimal direction.
  • Communicate well both verbally and in writing.
  • Meet deadlines and produce accurate work in a fast-paced office environment.
