THE POSITION
Join the Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation's (DOCCR) food services team at the Adult Corrections Facility (ACF) as a Food Service Worker! You will have the opportunity to expand your food services knowledge and experience, and make a difference in the community by being a part of a department with a mission to promote community safety, community restoration, and reduce the risk of re-offense.
Location and hours:
This position is located at the Adult Correction Facility at 1145 Shenandoah Lane N, Plymouth, MN 55447. There is no public transportation to this facility. The primary schedule for this position will vary based on need, Monday through Friday up to 39 hours in a two-week pay period including occasional weekends and evenings.
About the position type:
This position is a part-time, benefit earning position.
In this position, you will:
- Prepare and supervise resident meal line (salads, sandwiches, cold plates, desserts, beverages, soups, entrees, appetizers, and special diet items).
- Supervise resident workers and assist the senior cooks in the preparations of the meals.
- Remove food and beverages from freezers, thaw, and place under refrigeration; deliver, serve, and pick up food trays.
- Maintain standards of sanitation and cleanliness, clean and sanitize food preparation and equipment, and operate and/or clean kitchen appliances.
- Order, receive, store, and handle all usage control of food, beverage, and stock and deliver materials from storage area to supply or work area.
- Load, unload, and drive county delivery vehicles within the Adult Corrections Facility campus.
Must be 21 years or older and need to have:
- A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
- A ServSafe Certification or the ability to acquire certification within one year of hire.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
Nice to have:
- Experience:
- With general food service.
- In food service in a prison, detention center, hospital, college, or military setting.
- Providing training and work direction to work program residents and kitchen staff.
- Basic knowledge and skill in using a computer to access and enter data.
- Ability to:
- Operate industrial kitchen appliances and food service equipment.
- Manage problems and resolve conflicts using tact and diplomacy.
- Work as a team member.

Under facility licensing requirements, positions at the County Home School and/or Juvenile Detention Center are required to undergo a Department of Human Services Background Study (MS 245C.13). Convictions for certain crimes will have an effect on your ability to be hired according to the disqualification schedule listed in Minnesota Statute 245C.15. Individuals convicted for any level of Criminal Sexual Conduct are disqualified from being hired into any position within the DOCCR under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). Other past involvement with the criminal court system will not automatically disqualify you from working at the DOCCR; individual circumstances are reviewed and evaluated confidentially.
