Survey Technician

This position is located on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest with the Technical Services Unit in Rhinelander, WI.

This position is assigned to a zoned lands organization and performs land survey work for multiple National Forest Service units.The incumbent serves under the direction of a Land Surveyor and performs a variety of technical land survey duties.

Responsibilities:
Use extensive knowledge of surveying in order to plan and conduct various types of surveys.
Use precise leveling, state plane coordinates, second and third order traverse procedures, and computations to conduct surveys.
Perform varied surveys, such as location, right-of-way and property surveys for technical land surveying projects.
Calibrate, clean, and properly maintain equipment for field use.
Operate surveying instruments such as levels, theodolites and total stations for performing land survey projects.
Maintain survey and other data collection instruments used for surveying.
Utilize GPS equipment for performing surveys.
Prepare daily report of survey project operations for records.
Utilize surveying instruments and equipment for collection and analysis of data.
Prepare field notes, reference maps, and sketches for surveying analysis.
Process, evaluate, and edit electronic field data for entry into a computer aided mapping, design, and analysis system.
Purchase parts, supplies, or repair services in order to maintain continuity of field operations.
Organize and execute details for limited survey projects.
Oversee schedules for survey projects and activities to ensure they stay on assigned timelines.
