Graider, Remote Teaching/Grading Assistant

The Role
We are seeking undergraduate or graduate students who are passionate about education to serve as virtual teaching assistants, or “Graiders.” This is a 100% remote, paid part-time opportunity - all you need is a laptop and wifi.

As a Graider, you will provide personalized feedback on middle and high school student work. We primarily support student writing assignments in English Language Arts and Social Studies, for which all Graiders will be qualified through our application process, but we also have a growing need for applicants to score and provide feedback for high school AP STEM courses (calculus, statistics, physics, biology, chemistry, and environmental science).

Job Specifics
  • Graiders are responsible for scoring and providing feedback on student assignments.
  • The work is flexible and remote. Work from the comfort of your dorm or favorite coffee shop and choose the assignments that work best for you. As a guideline, Graiders should plan to work 6+ hours per week.
  • This is a paid opportunity. You can have an impact on students, grow as an educator, and earn extra money – all on your own schedule. Pay for a completed assignment typically ranges from $20-60 depending on the details and length of the assignment. Base pay starts at $10 an hour.
  • You’ll also receive ongoing professional development and coaching to develop your feedback and professional skills. Plus, if you are an aspiring teacher, this is a chance to gain relevant instructional experience and receive frequent feedback from veteran teachers.

The Mission
Graiders join a community of educators working to transform what it means to be a K-12 teacher. This is not your average job. This is the chance to be a part of a cutting-edge ed tech startup and to help impact student learning at scale. Our mission is to create powerful educational moments for students through personalized feedback.

Qualifications
You will excel as a Graider if you are:
  • A strong writer. Since you’ll be providing written feedback to students and teachers, strong written communication skills are a must. You’ll need to write clearly and concisely, deftly analyzing student writing and supporting your feedback with evidence, all while maintaining impeccable grammar and conventions.
  • Passionate about education. You can empathize with a diverse range of learners, critically assess their work, and provide thoughtful feedback that they will be able to digest and use to improve. This is a perfect role for someone who is studying education or considering becoming a teacher, but all are welcome to apply!
  • Proactive. You always check out details of your projects in advance, and you tend to over-communicate - this is especially important for remote work environments like ours!
  • Coachable. You are eager to receive and act on feedback. You internalize feedback in order to continually improve your skills and adapt to the needs of different teachers and students.
  • Dependable. Teachers and students can count on you to complete assignments on time.

Competitive applicants often:
  • Have experience in student teaching or tutoring roles.
  • Have excelled in their own academics and are strong writers.
  • Have honed their professional communication skills through a professional internship or a part time job - feedback is all about communicating areas of strength and ways to grow!
