Support Services Office Supervisor

The Support Services Office Supervisor is a non-sworn position of the Police Department. The primary objectives of this position are to provide supervision and coordinate activities of support staff that work a variety of schedules within the Police Department. This person will be responsible for planning, preparing and devising work schedules, observe and evaluate workers' performance, issue instructions and assign duties to workers, train and instruct employees, recommend and issue staff improvements, communicate with other supervisors and management to resolve issues. Review and check work of subordinates, prepare and maintain reports, make recommendations to management for improving procedures. Plan and develop improved procedures within the Division.

  • Supervise, guide, direct and motivate subordinates including monitoring performance.  Schedule and coordinate work, activities and events and the work of others. Work with Support Services Manager and Lead personnel to create and maintain a coordinated and consistent supervisory environment. Monitor and document performance of personnel supervised. Issue discipline when necessary. Assist Support Services Manager and Lead personnel in preparing and presenting performance evaluations of subordinates as well as the authorization of leave time such as vacation, comp, sick, etc.
  • Establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with subordinates, supervisors and management.
  • Document and record information. Includes entering, transcribing, recording, storing and maintaining information in written or electronic format.
  • Provide appropriate personal assistance to shift personnel in case of staffing shortages.
  • Recruit, interview, select, hire and promote employees in the organization.
  • Conduct research related to current or future activities.
  • Nominate, issue or cause to be issued the appropriate praise or formal awards to those employees who have performed in a manner deserving of special recognition.
  • Write and document procedures, concise reports and/or oral presentations and test systems before they are put into operation.
  • Periodically work with data dealing with internal investigations and document results.
  • Assist with building operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Education
  • Two (2) year associate degree in Business Administration and/or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Experience
  • Two (2) years working in a supervisory position
  • Two (2) years working in a customer service setting

Equivalency
An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.
