M – TH 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
F 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

CLASSIFICATION
College Lab Assistant 2,  Biological Sciences
Full-time Seasonal (Sept-May)

SALARY RANGE
$17.76 - $24.82/hourly; $37,082 - $51,824/annually

POSITION PURPOSE:
This position exists to serve the students and faculty of the Science Disciplines (Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Physics). Under limited supervision the Lab Assistant will assist the science faculty and students in the preparation and processes for laboratory activities.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
·        Associate or higher degree in Biological Sciences
AND
·        1 academic year of teaching/tutoring experience in Biological Sciences at the high school level or above
OR
·        An equivalent combination of education and work experience
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
·        Bachelor’s degree or higher in a Science Field
·        Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
·        Experience with inventory management
·        Experience with standard science laboratory practices
·        Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty and students
·        Demonstrated ability to function independently to carry out assigned tasks and duties related to inventory management and laboratory preparation.
·        Demonstrated ability to oversee security and safety of lab equipment and materials and general lab environment
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES include BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
·        Maintain equipment and supplies in science laboratories and prep rooms
·        Supervises any student workers in prep rooms and laboratory spaces
·        Prepare scientific materials for labs
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
·        Ability to perform work that requires the following lifting/carrying strengths:
o   Lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
·        Ability to perform in a work environment which may include the following physical functions:
o   Frequent: Standing, walking, sitting, lifting above shoulder, lifting waist to chest, carrying, pushing, crouching, squatting, twisting/pivot, reaching, simple grasp, firm grasp, fine manipulation, talking, hearing, near vision, mid-range vision.
o   Occasional: Pulling, kneeling
