Teaching Assistant

Teaching Assistants work closely with Instructors to support a class section of 12–16 students enrolled in the Civic Leadership Institute or up to 18 students enrolled in Taking Action: Leadership & Service. Teaching Assistants attend and assist with daily class activities. For CLI, Teaching Assistants facilitate an additional two-hour class session in the evenings. Taking Action: Leadership & Service Teaching Assistants facilitate two-hour evening study sessions twice a week. Teaching Assistants contribute to the course in a variety of ways including, but not limited to, supervising students on field experiences and facilitating reflection sessions, assisting students with individual and small group projects, giving feedback on student work, preparing lessons and leading a class, and preparing class materials. Teaching Assistants should have at least one to two years of teaching or youth development experience with high school or middle school students, as a teacher or tutor, experiential educator, or other youth development professional. Experience working in a residential program is preferred. Generally, successful candidates are at least three years older than the oldest students with whom they might be working.
CLI Teaching Assistants are required to live on site, and room and board are provided (valued at $1,475). Teaching Assistants earn $1,200 - $1,400 per session, depending on education and experience.
