The Portland Water Bureau is seeking a Laboratory Analyst II to join their team.

This recruitment will remain open until 75 applications have been received or until the posted closing date, Monday, July 22, 2019, whichever comes first.  Applications received after the 75 application limit has been reached will not be included in this recruitment process.

This position is responsible for conducting a wide variety of analysis on raw and finished water samples. Qualified candidates will have knowledge of: laboratory methodology as applicable to chemical and microbiological analysis; principles of inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, environmental sciences, biology, microbiology and/or other related scientific fields; good laboratory practices, including quality assurance and quality control; standard computer programs and software used to perform data analysis; mathematics; statistical analysis; laboratory and hazardous chemical safety techniques; operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment; principles of laboratory ethics as applied to the production of valid analytical data.
 
This list may be used to fill vacancies in the City. Since these facilities operate 7 days a week, Laboratory Analysts are required to work any assigned shift, including weekends and/or holidays.

 TO QUALIFY:
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
  1. Knowledge of Standard Methods and US EPA chemical and microbiology protocols for the analysis of environmental samples.
  2. Knowledge of NELAC / ORELAP standards and requirements.
  3. Knowledge of general chemistry and microbiology and the principals of quality assurance/quality control for environmental analysis.
  4. Ability to perform analytical techniques such as pH; temperature; E. coli; total and fecal coliform; phosphates; nitrates/nitrites; ammonia; residual chlorine; suspended, dissolved, and total solids; and total alkalinity; etc.
  5. Knowledge of laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and basic computer programs related to data analysis.
  6. Knowledge and experience applying laboratory safety procedures and the ability to recognize and control chemical and biological hazards involved in laboratory operations.
Applicants must also possess:
  • A valid state driver's license and an acceptable driving record at the time of hire.
