Assistant Director, Trott Business Program

Responsibilities
The job assists in the design and implementation of advisory programs focused on students' career developments.1) Advises and counsels students concerning employment opportunities and careers by acting as a liaison between students and prospective employers., 2) Conducts mock interviews, reviews resumes and cover letters, and coordinates other interview related programming in both individual and group settings., 3) Develops original content for career related publications and assists with the editing and distribution of Career Services communications materials., 4) Provides guidance and training to student career counselor interns., 5) Performs other related work as needed.

Unit-specific Responsibilities

1) UChicago Career Advancement’s Business Programs build on the world-class UChicago liberal arts foundation to give students a competitive edge in their professional development and recruiting in a wide range of businesses. Business Programs consist of the Trott Business Program (TBP), a selective 3-year program, the Financial Markets Program, a selective program focused on quantitative finance, and Business Career Services (BCS).  The Assistant Director, Trott Business Program will utilize industry expertise to prepare students for a business careers, including financial services and consulting. This individual will provide one-on-one advising and coaching for students, plan and execute student workshops, contribute to reporting and analytics, and collaborate on employer outreach and development.

2) Industry Specific Student Coaching and Advising: Utilize industry experience to advise and prepare students to secure internship and full-time positions within finance, consulting, or corporate advisory capacity. 

3) Develop educational materials that will allow students to have a competitive advantage when applying and interviewing with various roles within business.

4) Closely monitor student progress and report out on status and placement outcomes.

5) Curriculum Design, Planning and Execution: Assist in planning, designing and executing student workshops and employer site visits.

6) Develop finance and consulting curriculum strategies and present enhancements to team.

7)Support large scale annual events supporting student networking and recruitment in finance, consulting, or other industries.

8) Reporting / Data Analysis / Presentation: Develop efficient methods to track student and program data

9) Support periodic and annual data gathering and analysis for program reporting

10) Summarize and present information at knowledge-sharing meetings with colleagues.

11) Employer Outreach and Development: Collaborate with the Employer Relations and Development team to develop relationships with employers and/or support large scale events and experiential activities involving employer partners.

12) General Career Advancement Activities: Provide general career counseling to assigned 1st year students.

13) Manage or provide support to additional Career Advancement initiatives as assigned including Taking the Next Step, career fairs, or other as assigned.

Unit-preferred Competencies
1) Deep commitment to customer service and the ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work successfully in a fast-paced environment.
2) Experience working with college-aged students and/or new recent college graduates strongly preferred; experience developing and managing an internship program a plus.
3) Expertise in program development, or a related area.
4) Demonstrated success in maintaining collaborative relationships with diverse constituencies.
5) Strong coaching or counseling skills.
6) Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Strong interpersonal, quantitative, and networking skills.  Experience making presentations.
7) Ability to communicate to large groups as well as one-on-one with students, senior management, faculty, alumni, etc.

Working Conditions
1) Office hours are 8:30 to 5 p.m.  Ability to work on Wednesdays from 5 – 7 p.m. during the academic year required, along with an occasional Saturday for special events.
2) Willingness and ability to travel (generally two or three times per year)


Education, Experience, and Certifications

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications
Education
1) Bachelor’s degree required, Master's degree or a comparable advanced degree
Experience
1) Minimum of three years of professional experience working in financial services, consulting and/or a corporate advisory capacity required, preferably in a client-facing role. 
2) Experience in investment banking, asset management, and other finance advisory services
Technical Knowledge, Skills or Certifications
1) Minimum intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
2) Basic financial modeling and budgetary experience.
3) Expertise in counseling, program development, or a related area
4) Knowledge of career development theory and strong coaching or counseling skills
