Assistant Director, Employer Relations & Development

Job Summary:
The Employer Relations and Development (ERD) team establishes and enhances employer relationships across industries and in multiple geographic locations to connect talented UChicago students with leading organizations for job outcomes and experiential education opportunities. The Assistant Director role includes developing relationships with employers across industries, contributing to the growth of full-time outcomes and the University’s premiere Jeff Metcalf Internship Program that places students into 2,500+ paid substantive opportunities in the academic year. Cultivation of employer partnerships includes active engagement with alumni, parents, and friends of the University to promote new professional opportunities in target regions and industries.

The ERD team provides superior customer service to all employer partners recruiting UChicago students, including the management of a robust on-campus recruiting program during peak hiring seasons. The Assistant Director will liaise closely with the Career Advancement’s suite of pre-professional programs as well as general advising teams in the office to promote opportunities, inform on recruiting trends, and offer insight into employer demand for skills and talent.

Another key initiative of this role includes ensuring that first-year Odyssey Scholars have access to substantive internship opportunities the summer after their first year. The Assistant Director will be instrumental in meeting this goal by helping to develop new relationships with employers interested in hiring first-year students, collaborating with student advisers in the creative promotion of opportunities, and establishing and maintaining ERD team momentum.

Responsibilities:
·        Employer relations (55%): The Assistant Director will assume a portfolio of existing employer partners and administer recruiting programs including but not limited to the Jeff Metcalf Internship Program, full-time recruitment. Support experiential education opportunities for students including treks, job shadowing, and industry programming provided by the UChicago Careers In… pre-professional programs that enhance employer branding and affinity on campus. Work primarily within assigned industries, while gaining an appreciation for the hybrid roles many companies seek and working collaboratively among various stakeholders to achieve success in promotion and student placement. Serve as adviser to employers on developing a successful recruitment strategy. Gain knowledge of recruiting trends in assigned industries to actively promote opportunities to students and advisers to contribute to targeted placement goals in each portfolio. Work with a wide variety of employers to assess and meet their needs and maintain contact with a portfolio of employers to serve as their dedicated Career Advancement liaison.

·        Employer development (15%): Build new relationships with employers in assigned industries based on student demand, market trends, and priority regions due to student enrollment. Collaborate with Alumni Relations and Development to cultivate new contacts and engage further with alumni, parents, and friends of the University. Represent Career Advancement in strategic development meetings and support their larger efforts of parent and alumni engagement. Develop and implement strategic employer development plan for assigned industry areas including outreach to new employers and employer visits as appropriate.

·        Programming and Event Planning (10%): Collaborate with colleagues to create and administer targeted live and virtual programming to make students successful in their job/internship searches. Programming includes sessions on career exploration, recruiting tools, specific jobs/industries, interviewing techniques, college/work transition, the career exploration trek program and the like. Partner with employers, alumni, student groups, and other university staff to deliver these programs. Support the planning and coordinating of Career Advancement’s annual career fairs, including employer outreach, logistics management, staffing, and day-of execution. Work closely with the Recruiting Coordinator and ERD to manage employer information sessions and coffee chats, company presentations, on-campus interviews, and other campus engagement activities. Collaborate with colleagues to increase employer participation in signature networking events and recruiting forums globally.

·        Data and reporting (10%): Play an active role in obtaining hiring data from employers. Responsible for weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reporting on employer relations and development efforts both within assigned portfolios, as well as overall industry trends, employer engagement, and the Jeff Metcalf Internship Program. Proactively track placement data as well as employer and stakeholder engagement. Contribute to annual outcomes reports and develop a working knowledge of key initiatives and priorities that contribute to student success.

·        Advising and student preparation collaboration (5%): Advise an assigned cohort of first-year students to provide support on career exploration and help to attain jobs and internships. Use industry and company knowledge to provide targeted advice and support.

Education:                                                                                                   
·        Bachelor's degree

Experience: 
·        Minimum of 1 year of professional work experience is preferred
·        Experience in building partnerships is highly relevant and desirable
·        Interest in career services, employer relations, and/or recruiting is strongly preferred

Technical Skills:
·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook PowerPoint, Word) is required 
·        Experience with database and online systems is highly desirable (Salesforce, Handshake, Wufoo, MailChimp, etc.)
