Park Ranger (I)

Duties will range throughout the park and perform a variety of interpretive services including:
Staffing the Visitor Center. Work involves interpreting the National Park system to a wide range of visitors. The position may include leading walking tours, bicycling tours, canoeing programs and other interpretive programs. The work will also include other miscellaneous duties with record keeping, brochure distribution and tasks related to center operations. Work with the Junior Ranger program. Operates audiovisual equipment including audio-visual projectors, computers and associated software, cameras, scientific equipment, telephone, and radio systems.
Interacting with a wide range of visitors through informal interpretation and tours throughout the entire park. They may also present programs at partnership visitor centers, river festivals, fairs and other special events elsewhere within or near the park. Assisting with school visits and field trips; preparation of educational materials and curricula resources; delivery of programs to students; and related tasks.Assisting with electronic-based interpretive materials. Much time may be spent outdoors in all weather conditions. Experience in a wide variety of outdoor recreation like biking, canoeing, geocaching and fishing is helpful. The incumbent educates visitors regarding the rules and limitations on park usage to gain friendly compliance with the regulations. Special projects may be assigned that require research, reading, writing, photography and work with other agencies or partners. The incumbent edits text for press releases, interpretive handouts and exhibits. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to develop effective non-personal interpretation, including but not limited to bulletin board displays, site bulletins, websites, and podcasts. Ability to use a computer and software (i.e.: Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite Programs, etc.). The position requires the ability to learn and interpret information about National Park sites. Employee must be able to adapt to a wide range of visitors and circumstances, and to work independently or with light supervision. Weekend and evening work will be required. More than one individual may be hired.
