THE POSITION
The Center of Innovation and Excellence is seeking an Innovation and Improvement Specialist to assist the county­wide innovation and improvement programs. The programs are based on human­-centered design, service design principles and continuous improvement concepts. Our process starts with the people we're serving and ends with a service that is designed and tested with their needs in mind. Components will include supporting and delivering training for county staff and supporting the applied consulting process to support department innovation and improvement efforts.
 
Location and hours:
This position is located at 701 4th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55415. Work hours will typically be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. 
 
About the position type:
This is a full-time, benefit earning position.
 
In this position, you will:         
  • Provide training as part of the innovation and improvement training programs to build county­wide capacity for design-­thinking-­based problem solving and continuous improvement processes.
  • Consult on developing, redesigning and improving business processes and services using design-­thinking and continuous improvement principles with departments across all lines of business.
  • Conduct research to assist in review of model practices, policies and procedures.
 
Need to have:
  • One of the following:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration, or other field appropriate to the position and two or more years of experience related to delivering training and/or facilitating learning experiences, developing plans, and/or managing projects or programs. 
  • Six or more years of experience related to delivering training and/or facilitating learning experiences, developing plans, and/or managing projects or programs. 
Nice to have:   
  • Experience with:
  • Human-centered design or design thinking problem solving techniques.
  • Continuous improvement methods.
  • Stakeholder facilitation using facilitation methods, such as Technology of Participation, Art of Hosting or other similar methods.
  • Project consulting.
  • Ability to:
  • Build and nurture collaborative relationships with a variety of employees, customers, and partners, both internal and external.
  • Be flexible and comfortable with change, complexity, and ambiguity.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate strong creative and critical thinking skills.
