The Office of Inspector General is an agent of positive change striving for continuous improvement within the CPSC and the IG. We conduct oversight, receive and review potential complaints, and report to stakeholders.
We are a fast-paced small office and you will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of assignments, develop writing and communication skills, and lead day-to-day office administration.


Responsibilities:

The incumbent serves as the Administrative Officer responsible for establishing and operating systems that provide for administrative management, financial accountability and fiscal integrity of transactions of the office. The incumbent will:
  • Responsible for timely and accurate publication of Office of Inspector General (IG) reports, including delivery to members of Congress.
  • Responsible for the final review of text in IG publications for grammatical correctness and formatting documents in compliance with office standards.
  • Is the first point of contact for all incoming Hotline complaints.
  • Participates in routine meetings and sensitive interviews to record participant discussion. Responsible for the accuracy of the transcriptions of these meetings and interviews.
  • Serve as the primary financial data analyst for the office, communicating with the agency regarding financial matters on behalf of the office. Is the office purchase card holder and responsible for maintaining the integrity of the office’s purchasing, processes travel vouchers in compliance with federal travel regulations, and serves as the principal budget officer for the IG.
  • Coordinates scheduling of meetings with agency management and other stakeholders.
  • Responsibilities include serving as Records Liaison, Freedom of Information Act Liaison, and maintaining and updating office’s internal directives.

You are applying under Delegated Examining and if selected under this authority, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period, even if you are a transfer from another federal agency. 


Qualifications:


Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

GS-9: 1) ability to exercise judgment when handling confidential sensitive information associated with audits and investigations AND 2) experience in reviewing publications (SOPs, policies, audits, reviews) for accuracy, grammar, and conformance with established guidelines, requirements and regulations.

GS-11: 1) ability to exercise judgment when handling confidential sensitive information associated with audits and investigations; 2) ability to develop written methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for administrative support functions or program operations; AND 3) experience in managing, drafting, and editing publications (SOPs, policies, plans, audits, forms, etc.) to ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines, policies, and grammar.

Education:


GS-9: Master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D., if related or 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-7.

GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related or 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-9.
