Facilities/Warehouse Pollution Control Technician

Job Summary
This is a seasonal position and will be from May to November each year. It provides equipment and sample transportation support to MPCA field staff at their request based on knowledge of environmental monitoring and sample collection protocol and procedures in the areas of surface water, ground water, soils, air, and hazardous materials; assist fleet manager in monitoring administrative operations so that field vehicles are maintained.
Minimum Qualifications:
The incumbent must have two years of course work in an environmental field or a closely related college science program from a 2 or 4 year educational institution with knowledge of environmental sampling techniques, procedures, and equipment.
Effective oral communication, written communication, computer and problem-solving skills.
Note: Most of the work will be within a warehouse with heating but no cooling. Occasional outdoor work may be needed to maintain equipment and assist staff in preparation for field work. The position may occasionally travel with field crews to sample and to help provide a broad understanding of the work in order to provide better customer service. Occasional, but brief exposure to vehicle exhaust and fugitive volatile sampling chemicals and gasoline vapors can be expected. Occasional skin contact with oils and greases can also be expected.
Ability to travel up to 10%
Valid Class D driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in environmental field sampling.
Inventory and warehouse procedures and processes.
Knowledge of vehicles and fleet coordination.
Health and safety requirements for field sampling.
Forklift operator certification or ability to secure certification
Physical Requirements
The position must be able to frequently lift 40 – 50 pounds and occasional lift up to 75 pounds and climb ladders to access equipment.
Additional Requirements
When the position requires travel and the applicant drives a state owned or leased vehicle, a driver's license and record check will be conducted. This position required driving and requires a Class D Driver's License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver's license.
