Part-Time (0.50 FTE) ICWA Guardian ad Litem-9th District

The Ninth Judicial District Guardian ad Litem Board is currently seeking a part-time (0.50 FTE) non-exempt ICWA Guardian ad Litem employee to advocate for the best interests of children in Juvenile Court proceedings. The candidate selected for this position may work in an office or remote work setting, however, will need to be localized in close proximity to the district area. This position will maintain cases primarily in the following counties: Kittson, Roseau, Marshall, Red Lake, Pennington, Polk, Norman and Mahnomen. Travel to other service areas throughout the district may be required as well. The Guardian ad Litem Program is an independent program within the Minnesota Judicial Branch and is governed by the State Guardian ad Litem Board.

This is responsible work advocating for and representing the best interests of a child in court proceedings, with an emphasis on serving American Indian clients. Incumbents apply an intimate understanding of the provisions of the Federal Indian Child Welfare Act, the Minnesota Indian Family Preservation Act, and BIA Regulations in providing effective representation of the child's best interests.

Work involves following procedures and guidelines to ensure the responsibilities of the Guardian ad Litem (GAL) program are carried out in accordance with the Minnesota Rules of Practice and Rules of Guardian Ad Litem Procedure as well as Juvenile Protection Rules; the Minnesota Rules of Court, Statutes and Administrative Orders and Policies; GAL Board Policies; GAL Program Standards; and district and local program requirements.

Work is performed under supervision of the Guardian ad Litem Board and the Ninth Judicial District GAL program.
