Transportation Engineer 9-12 (Load Rating Engineer) - Bureau of Bridges and Structures

This position is open to applicants who possess a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering or in civil and environmental engineering or obtaining by the Spring of 2019.

This position will be filled at the Transportation Engineer 9, 10, P11, or 12 level depending the selected candidate's qualifications.

Transportation Engineer 9/10/P11
Perform transportation engineering functions as a professional in the specialized field of bridge load rating analysis.


Transportation Engineer 12
Senior level engineer responsible for the load rating of the most complex and unique projects assigned to the Bridge Load Rating unit. Various types of unique and most complex load rating projects include: historical bridges, bridges with deterioration, bridges with incomplete or no plans, and superstructure replacement. This position performs load rating analyses on superstructures with complex geometry, including skew. This position has the ability to efficiently respond to and resolve load rating related issues.  

Required Education and Experience
Education
Possession of a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering or in civil and environmental engineering or obtaining in the Spring, 2019.
Experience

Transportation Engineer 9
No specific type or amount is required.

Transportation Engineer 10
One year of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 9.

Transportation Engineer P11
Two years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 10.

Transportation Engineer 12
Three years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer P11.
Alternate Education and Experience
Transportation Engineer 9 - 12

Possession of a registered professional engineer license as required by the State of Michigan may be substituted for 6 months of experience at the Transportation Engineer 9-12 levels. This substitution may only be used once for any employee for qualification of appointment or early reclassification.
Additional Requirements and Information
Possession of a valid driver's license.
