Sheriff's Chief Deputy

Hennepin County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) is looking to fill the
position of Chief Deputy Sheriff.

Interviews for final candidates will be held on Monday December
17th and Tuesday December 18th 2018.

Effective January 6, 2019, there will be a general salary
adjustment of 2.5% to the minimum and maximum of the range.

Location and hours:
This position requires working a flexible schedule including
days, evenings, overnights, on-call, weekends, and holidays.

About the position type:
This position is unclassified, full-time and benefit-earning.
Unclassified positions are non-permanent (at will).

In this position, you will:

•Make recommendations on, and provide direction in the
development, presentation, and execution of the office budget.
•Review and make decisions on problems as delegated by the
•Formulate and direct procedural, organizational, and budgetary
•Develop office policies, rules and regulations.
•Direct the selection, placement, training, evaluation, and
discipline of office personnel.
•Coordinate special contacts with other law enforcement and
community agencies.
•Represent the Sheriff at various board agencies, professional
and civil meetings.
•Prepare reports.
•Act for the Sheriff in his absence or at his direction.
Need to have:•Two years or more of college coursework in a law
enforcement or related program and five years or more of
supervisory or administrative law enforcement experience. Note:
Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year
•Be a licensed peace officer or eligible to be licensed by the
MN POST Board at the time of application.
•Have a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a
Hennepin County driver's permit.
•Pass a comprehensive medical examination prior to appointment
to ascertain candidate's ability to perform essential job
functions. The general medical requirements include, but are not
limited to: ◦Uncorrected vision of at least 20/100 in each eye.

◦Corrected vision of at least 20/40 in each eye.
◦Meeting normal hearing standards.
◦Must not have cardiovascular problems, including hypertension.

◦Must not have any respiratory impairment.

•Ability to abide by the Sheriff's Office Personal Appearance
Standards Policy. You must read the entire policy and be able and
willing to meet the requirements.

•A strong working knowledge of government processes and how to
work within the system to affect change.
•A desire to make all employees of the agency feel valued and

•Strong experience in working collaboratively with other law
enforcement and government partners.
