Environmental Business Assistance Specialist

Job Summary
This position exists in the Resource Management and Assistance Division, Business Assistance Unit to provide multi-media environmental assistance to Minnesota businesses. The position provides assistance on state and federal environmental regulations, including ways businesses can improve environmental stewardship beyond the regulatory framework. This position also shares responsibilities for MPCA’s small business environmental assistance helpline (telephone assistance). The position develops educational materials for dissemination to and use by small businesses, as well as plans, organizes and delivers training.
 Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an environmental protection or related science area;
OR
Two (2) years of professional-level environmental protection experience.
AND
Strong customer service ethic.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Basic computer skills with proficiency in Word and exposure to Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to gain a complete understanding of the environmental regulatory process and procedures.
Good communication and human relations skills to interact effectively with stakeholders and team members.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of federal, state and local environmental laws, rules, regulations and standards.
Experience with air, water and land environmental issues.
Experience working with diverse communities.
Experience working in teams and experience with conflict resolution.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Physical Requirements
Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
