Madison College Bookstore will have short term positions available at the Truax campus during the fall semester start. Positions start August 22, 2018. All positions will end by mid-late September 2018 or earlier depending on the needs of the store. The rate of pay is $13.68 per hour. Positions are typically scheduled to work 30-40 hours per week, but may vary.

Organizational Function and Responsibilities:

The Madison College Bookstore is seeking friendly, positive, and detail oriented people are needed. Experience in cashiering, customer service, and order fulfillment is preferred. Must be able to commit to a set schedule within the hours listed below, stand for long periods of time, lift 50 lbs. and present a professional image at all times.

All applicants must be available to work a set schedule that will fall within the dates/times listed below. Some people will be scheduled for an early shift and others will be scheduled for a late shift. Schedules will be determined by the bookstore management.

Monday-Thursday 7:00 am - 7:00 pm and Friday 7:00 am - 4:30 pm.

Essential Duties:

The following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Operate a cash register.

• Handle several types of transactions, some of which are fairly complex.

• Provide quality customer service in store and over the phone in locating books, supplies, and information.

• Verify incoming orders and stock shelves.

• Fill orders for textbooks and school supplies.

• Provide information and guidance to customers entering the store.

• Clean and straighten retail merchandise.

• Perform other duties as assigned by bookstore staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Skill in customer service.

2. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

3. Skill in cashiering and maintaining money records.

4. Skill in following oral and written instructions.

5. Ability to lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.

6. Ability to be flexible as work conditions and responsibilities change.

7. Ability to be multi-task, be composed, and organized in a fast paced environment.

8. Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds as well as individuals with disabilities.


1. Experience in cashiering, customer service, and/or order fulfillment is preferred.
