Life Skills Coach

LIFE SKILLS COACH

We are currently searching for a Life Skills Coach for our OPTIONS Transitions to Independence program. Successful candidates will have excellent customer services skill and must be outcome-oriented. The ability to work in an ever changing professional environment with strong attention to detail is essential.


Position Summary:

The Life Skills Coach (LSC) works in conjunction with another Life Skills Coach, a Life Skills Aide and the Director of Student Services to provide young adults with learning disabilities support and case-management services in relation to the student’s life skills programming.  The LSC is responsible for implementing the various life skills programming areas, so that the mission and values of the Extension phase of program are fully realized. This position requires some evening and weekend work.


Responsibilities:

  • On-going development and implementation of the Extension Phase life skills areas, monitoring students’ progress and performance

  • Create scheduled times for Advisement and Life Management Labs (LMLs) for students in the Extension Phase, using the time to highlight specific goals and areas of concerns

  • Plan and implement a variety of guided leisure opportunities for students

  • Oversee the implementation of the Grocery Shopping & Nutrition component of the program

  • On-going development and implementation of the Life Skills Curriculums, with primary instructor responsibilities during each semester

  • Process with students when behaviors or situations arise that require additional intervention

    • This may entail some on-call obligations

  • Communicate with parents on a regularly scheduled and timely basis regarding the progress and performance of their student

  • Generate concise and thorough Individual Program Plan Reviews that speak to student performance and progress, and make recommendations based on that performance

Administrative Duties:

  • Communicate and coordinate with the Director of Student Services and/or Head of OPTIONS regarding student issues and/or program issues

  • Create and implement related curriculums, as assigned by the Director of Student Services and/or Head of OPTIONS, changing and evolving the program as the student needs dictate

  • Directly supervise Life Skills Aide position, assigning duties and tasks during assigned shifts

  • Participate in weekly OPTIONS Team Meetings

  • Participate in the Strategic Planning process, putting value and emphasis on the overall viability and health of the program

  • Actively pursue professional development through professional review, conferences, workshops, educational courses, readings, and formal and informal assessment of instruction, professional goals, and effectiveness of interaction with student, parents, and colleagues


Essential Job Requirements:

Required Skills:

  • Passion for the Brehm Mission, a strong work ethic, flexibility, and a sense of humor

  • Knowledge of policies, protocols, systems, and procedures established to enhance student programming

  • Ability to apply techniques and strategies to achieve desired student outcomes

  • Strong written and verbal communication

  • Skillful negotiation and mediation skills in dealing with students, families and internship supervisors

  • Ability to generate thorough, concise written documents pertaining to student progress and program needs or development

  • Ability to model and engage in appropriate social skills

  • Basic computer skills: word processing, Internet usage

  • Strong work ethic

Preferred Skills:

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Knowledge of Gmail and Google Drive

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or related discipline

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience working with young adults with disabilities

Physical Requirements:

  • Sit for long periods of time

Travel:

  • Not required

Working Conditions:

  • Office and residential setting

  • Full-time, year round

  • Hours and Days will vary based on the needs of the Program
