Academic Success Instructor








Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of ABE & Tutoring and in collaboration with other faculty, this Instructor will teach and facilitate student learning in a full range of courses in the Academic Success program.  The Academic Success Instructor will be responsible for teaching in a variety of formats, to include an individualized lab, structured classes, integrated, competency based education, and technology mediated or enhanced delivery.  Academic Success courses include: program prep, GED/HSED, remedial, developmental, non-academic, career and employability, financial literacy, technology literacy, and academic subjects. 

 

Responsibilities will be at the Rhinelander Campus and designated outreach locations with variable hours that may include day, evening, and/or weekend teaching assignments.  In addition, faculty members maintain office hours, develop and maintain curriculum and programs, mentor adjunct faculty, and actively participate in serving the diverse communities served by the College.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

·        Develop, maintain, and deliver performance-based, learning-centered instruction in the Adult Basic Education field in accordance with the mission, vision, and philosophy of Nicolet College.

·        Develop, maintain, and improve programs and courses by working collaboratively with other faculty and administrators through program review, curriculum and course development, assessment of student learning, advisory committees, and student recruitment and retention initiatives.

·        Serve and participate in the college-wide community, including institutional projects, committees, team meetings, graduation, and governance.

·        Seek to evaluate and improve program based on data specific to Adult Education and Family Literacy standards.

·        Participate in performance appraisal and pursue professional development that is discipline-specific, enhances teaching and learning practice, and expands expertise in other academic fields of interest to the faculty member and the College.

·        Assist students by providing advice regarding their academic career path and career opportunities.

·        Maintain professional affiliations, certificates, and qualifications.

·        Interact with and represent Nicolet College to communities and organizations including the Wisconsin Technical College System, district high schools, employers, Native American tribal communities, advisory committees, and professional groups related to the field.

·        Maintain accurate attendance and scholastic records of students and submit required reports according to published deadlines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

·        Ability to deal effectively with students of various ages, learning styles, academic levels, and cultural backgrounds in classroom and non-classroom settings.

·        Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to create and facilitate student learning.

·        Ability to teach Adult Basic Education courses at various levels from introductory to advanced.   

·        Promote an educational philosophy that places the primary emphasis on student learning in the design, delivery, and evaluation of learning.

·        Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing.

·        Ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships across the College and in the district, working with diverse student, staff, and community populations.

·        Commitment to community college education as demonstrated through personal and/or professional experience.

·        Promote and model professionalism as an educator.

·        The employee must demonstrate strong attention to detail, and must be able to problem solve and perform complex tasks without error.

·        While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to normal classroom and office conditions and usual office equipment.

·        The employee will be constantly required to talk, hear, and type/write.

·        The employee will be frequently required to sit, touch/handle/grasp (using hands and fingers), and reach with hands and arms.

·        The employee must occasionally move up to 10 pounds of general office items.

·        Specific hearing abilities required by this job include hearing normal speaking-level sounds.

·        Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, far, and field of vision.

·        Occasional travel is required.

·        This position requires regular and punctual employee presence.

 


 

Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s Degree or higher required; (Math or Science majors preferred):

o  with major (or at least 30 semester credits) in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Adult Education, or Special Needs Education, or

o  with DPI certification or major in any area taught in Elementary or Secondary Education levels, plus a total of 6 credits in Reading Instruction and/or Teaching Methods.

·        Teaching experience in a post-secondary setting preferred.

·        Team teaching experience preferred.

·        Experience teaching Adult Basic Education courses preferred.

·        Experience with alternative delivery methods (Online, Video Conferencing, and Accelerated Learning) preferred.

Compensation:

The typical starting salary range is $51,350 - $57,750, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Includes a comprehensive benefits package.
