The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN), Department of Systems, Populations and Leadership seeks a Project Intermediate Manager who will be responsible for the planning, implementation and management of funded research projects for Professor Marita G. Titler.  


  • Manage special projects as appropriate. Project management activities may include, but are not limited to, data collection, analysis and presentation; development of timelines and budgets; development and management of project teams and team meetings; follow-up on project deliverables; development of process documentation; and determination of project schedules. Manage the day-to-day operations of research projects.
  • Perform project management duties and provide coordination efforts such as developing meeting agendas, gathering relevant meeting materials, assigning responsibilities to team members, preparing presentation materials, documenting outstanding issues and following up on unresolved issues.
  • Assure timely completion of required information, reports, communications and other deliverables by monitoring and communicating due dates and providing assistance when appropriate.
  • Maintain list of all projects and work with appropriate timelines, resources and escalation as needed.
  • Develop and maintain procedures and tools to track and report on data acquisition for various projects.  
  • Provide regular briefings and reports to the Professor Titler on projects and work status, outstanding issues, escalation, communications and activities.
  • Participate in the development of grant proposals and manuscripts.
  • Assist the Professor Titler in the development of proposals for research and obtaining support for new and/or continued research activities.
  • Manage and oversee the implementation of the research project goals.
  • Manage and collaborate with the Professor Titler and her research team in the overall oversight and monitoring of budgets.
  • Collaborate with the Professor Titler to prepare reports and IRB applications.
  • Assist with writing and editing articles for publication.
  • Advise and assist the Professor Titler in planning and preparing presentations of research findings.

Supervision is received from Professor Titler and/or designee.



·       A bachelor’s degree in nursing required; master’s degree in nursing strongly preferred.

·       Two (2) to four (4) years of progressively responsible, relevant work experience providing project management support on funded research projects; five (5) to seven (7) years strongly preferred.

·       Demonstrated project management experience required, and must include leading the start-up of grant funded projects and creating and maintaining tracking systems, scheduling and planning, issue documentation, meeting preparation and follow up.

·       Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint).

  • Candidate must have excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely for various mediums; must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels while operating in a fast-paced service environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to set priorities, handle multiple assignments and deadlines and display excellent judgment while operating in a flexible and professional manner; strong ability to multitask while remaining focused is essential; proven ability to pay attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Demonstrated excellent problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills.


  • A high degree of initiative and resourcefulness.
  • Must reliably manage responsibilities and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and maximum collaboration in a team environment.

·       Working knowledge of the University organization, policies and procedures is preferred.
