Account Clerk

The Finance area of the Information Technology (IT) department
has an opening for an Account Clerk. This position will be
responsible for a wide range of accounting related tasks.

The primary duties and responsibilities for this position
• Perform accounting and clerical functions to support the
principal account clerk and accountants.
• Prepare reports for cash, journal vouchers, transactions and
other various regular and specialized accounting documents using
spreadsheets or specialized software.
• Review financial transactions, and financial reports to
verify accuracy and timeliness of revenues, expenditures, and
coding of the accounting system by inspection and comparison of
documents or manual calculations.
• Gather, organize, and post fiscal data to update and
maintain financial records, journals, ledgers, and databases.
• Respond to inquiries from county personnel or departments,
state personnel, and the public about invoice discrepancies and
other financial and accounting issues.
• Process accounts payable timely and accurately.    
• Journalize internal billing entries.
• Process and verify complex information and calculations;
assist with preparation of financial reports and budgets.
• Set up purchase orders, requisitions, and complete
• Input, retrieve, export and modify financial information and
data stored in computerized systems; assist other users with
problems associated with computers; generate reports; assist
others on the use of computer financial systems and programs.
• Other financial or clerical duties as assigned including
backup to principal account clerk and administrative assistant.

***Best Qualified Candidates will have:
• One of the following:
○ Three years or more of office clerical experience in IT or
finance. Note: Education may be substituted for experience on a
month for month (3 semester credits = 1 month) basis.
○ A two-year college/vocational technical degree or higher
and one year or more of office clerical experience.
○ 30 months of office clerical experience and completion of
the Career Connections Office Specialist Pathway
Training program.
○ Two years of office clerical experience and completion of
the Career Connections Public Sector Office Administration or
Health Advocate Pathway Training program.
• Knowledge of the accounts payable process.
• Experience with:
○ Accounting and auditing procedures, and related office
○ Microsoft Excel, PeopleSoft (APEX), and the requisition
○ Collecting, analyzing, and reporting financial data.
