Transportation Planner 9-P11 Monitor

This Transportation Planner supports programs and related efforts that facilitate MDOT in meeting federal requirements. This opportunity will begin with full support and training opportunities and will allow for individual growth.

Position will assist with the implementation of the new federal Transportation Performance Measures (TPM) required by the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21) legislation is a critical role. The primary TPM requirements charged to this position include assisting in the creation of a statewide data repository for the Model Inventory Road Element (MIRE) Fundamental Data Elements (FDE). The MIRE FDE is information on roadways that will assist both state and local partners with crash and safety analysis. Technical solutions and support will be available from the GIS staff and TPM team leaders, this position is part of a broader team. This position will be charged to coordinate the process between MDOT, venders, and partners.

The National Highway System (NHS), National Functional Classification (NFC), and the Adjusted Census Urban Boundary (ACUB) classifications are federally required and determine reporting requirements. This position will coordinate planning activities for these classifications such as meeting with local partner staff and proposal writing. This position facilitates communication with our partners. Partners include cities, villages, county transportation agencies, Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO), Regional Planning Agencies (RPA), sovereign tribal governments, MDOT staff, FHWA, and other state DOTs. A portion of the position will require input of the changes into a web based Event Editor tool. GIS and mapping support will be supplied by GIS staff for this position. Effective writing, people, partnering, and presentation skills are critical to this position's duties.
