9910 Public Service Aide: Special Projects Coordinator Trainee

APPOINTMENT TYPE: Temporary Exempt: This position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer, and the duration of the position shall not exceed 18 months.  

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The San Francisco Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Section leads the coordination of programs and policies that seek to improve the health outcomes of mothers, children, and adolescents in San Francisco, with an emphasis on low-income, immigrant, and Medi-Cal enrolled children.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under the supervision of the MCAH Family Planning Program Director, the Special Projects Coordinator Trainee gains the skills and experience required to qualify for the 2819 Assistant Health Educator classification in the Health Educator series. The incumbent creates promotion materials such as flyers, presentations, websites, social media, and assists in quality improvement measures to support timely access and quality services to adolescent and women’s health. Incumbent works alongside more senior operations staff to learn all aspects of the San Francisco Health Network, social justice, and equity in care.

LOCATION:

30 Van Ness, Suite 260B, San Francisco, CA, 94103

WORKING HOURS:   

24 hours per week. Persons employed in this class will work three days per week during weekdays. Shift assignments are subject to changes.

Essential Duties:

  • Participates in the development, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of online communication strategies including the GoFolic! preconception health social media campaign.
  • Assists in development and implementation of usability testing for digital media to enhance user experiences.
  • Assists in communicating and coordinating quality improvement activities with health department staff, community members, and community agency staff.
  • Trains in conducting field assessments of access to quality care; organizes assessment and evaluation results using online survey tools and data spreadsheets.
  • Receives training on the Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program model, contraceptive counseling, pregnancy options counseling, and sexually transmitted disease counseling.

The 9910 Public Service Trainee also performs other related duties as assigned.

NOTE: The qualified applicant pool may be used to fill other positions located at different locations in the next six months.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree with a major in public health, sociology, biological sciences, or a closely related field; OR
  2. Current enrollment in a baccalaureate degree with a major in Public Health Education and completion of at least 90 semester units (135 quarter units) towards the degree.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Interest in women's health services and quality care.
  • Experience in and comfort with discussing reproductive/ sexual health topics.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms.
  • Understanding of basic public health concepts.
  • Fluency in oral (Cantonese or Mandarin) and written Chinese or fluency in Spanish.
