Job Description Summary:

DEFINITION
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Information Technology, provide training and user support services to employees of District supported computer systems, software, and hardware; be the first point of contact for employees seeking assistance for campus technology issues. Diagnose and answer questions from users regarding computers, peripherals, and applications. Triage more complex problems and forward to appropriate Information Technology staff.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Incumbents in this position support student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness by providing user support and technology training to all employees of the college; as well as educating employees regarding best practices to maintain proper data security.

Essential Functions & Qualifications:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Maintain library of software tutorials and books available to faculty and staff;
• Design training curriculum based on user needs and specific software packages;
• Deliver training in one-on-one, group, classroom situations, and online;
• Investigate available training modalities;
• Assist with the deployment of new technology as it relates to training and support;
• Learn and adopt new technologies as needed to effectively train and support customers;
• Educate employees regarding best practices to maintain proper data security;
• Query users for specific training needs and evaluate skills needed to use products;
• Maintain department web page;
• Maintain and assist with updates and security for web-based systems;
• Serve as the first point of contact for the department;
• Ensure good customer service through friendly, supportive, and positive interaction with customers;
• Assess support need and route requests appropriately;
• Solve user computer problems remotely or in person;
• Follow department procedures for logging customer requests and solutions;
• Dispatch, in case of emergency, appropriate staff based on established procedures and needs;
• Receive, prioritize, and follow through on work requests;
• Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Required

• Associate's degree or the equivalent.

Experience:
Required

• Two years of experience in computer user support.

Knowledge of:

• Training methodologies;
• Learning Management Systems;
• Curriculum development;
• Industry standard operating systems (Windows, iOS, Android, Mac OS);
• Problem solving/troubleshooting techniques;
• Standard computer terminology;
• Research tools for problem resolution;
• Current technologies, personal computer, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or database software;
• Correct usage of English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; and
• District policies and procedures.

Ability to:

• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties; and
• Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities.

Physical ability to:

• Read and comprehend printed matter and text and data on computer monitors;
• Communicate intelligibly and effectively via speech, telephone, written correspondence, and/or email;
• Sit or stand for extended periods of time;
• Lift and/or carry 25 pounds; and
• Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.

License and Certificates (must be continuously current):
Required

• Valid driver's license and eligible to obtain California driver's license upon hire.
