POSITION: Temporary Kindergarten Teacher
LOCATION: Darrington Elementary School

SALARY: State salary schedule and the District/Education Association negotiated contract
POSITION SUMMARY
The teacher will create a program and class environment favorable to high expectations, learning and personal growth of students which facilitates student success in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum including but not limited to implementation of Read Well; motivate students to develop skills, character traits attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation in life, and establish good relationships and rapport with students, families, and staff members. The teacher will document student progress, activities, and outcomes; address specific educational needs of students; and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals. The teacher will maintain professional competence through in-service education, coursework, and professional growth activities. Plan and implement home visits prior to the start of the school year.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:
 Prepare teaching materials aligned with Common Core Standards and reports for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress
 Report incidents (child abuse, fights, substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to education code and district and school policies, refer to intervention and participate on intervention team as required
 Provide an exceptional educational experience to all students; communicate an enthusiasm for learning, engage in student goal setting
 Provide clear and focused instruction for all students by using a variety of teaching strategies to meet the needs of all students to assure successful learning through a defined course of study
 Frequently assess and monitor students for the purpose of providing feedback to
students, parents, and administration (regularly on weekly and monthly basis)
regarding student progress, expectations, and goals by using quality classroombased
assessments, and formal standardized assessments
 Collaborate with school personnel, parents, and various community agencies for
the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions,
and planning curriculum and willingness to work with grade level team
 Direct instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student aides for the purpose
of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual
students and be supportive of parent volunteers in the classroom
 Utilize district adopted curriculum to guide instruction
 Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an
orderly, safe and productive environment for learning, which include campus and
building wide common standards, discipline system, and common expectations
 Communicate regularly and positively with parents
 Perform related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential Criteria:
 Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate, K-8/Elementary or Early Childhood
Education endorsement
 Demonstrates the ability to build a positive learning environment including
modeling respect and honoring the dignity of all students, staff and parents
 Promotes the highest level of learning for all students
 Knowledge of WAKids and familiarity with developmental milestones and
kindergarten readiness
 Demonstrates content knowledge and appropriate instructional practices
 Knowledge and experience in various forms of assessment including formative
assessment, student self-assessment, anecdotal records and portfolio
 Demonstrates effective classroom management procedures that provide for large
and small groups in an environment conducive to learning
 Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a
variety of audiences
 Ability to remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations
Desired Criteria:
 Knowledge of complex trauma
 Understanding of PBIS
 Knowledge of 5D CEL Instructional Frameworks and ability to apply dimensions in
daily teaching practices
 Understanding of state teacher evaluation process (TPEP)
 Technology proficient or ability to gain proficiency to integrate technology into the
instructional delivery
 Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation
Fingerprint Clearance
 Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later)
 I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and
Control Act
 HIV/HBV Training (obtain within 60 days of hire date-district provided)
 Sexual Harassment Training (obtain within 60 days of hire date-district provided)
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee
encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is confined
to a work area; required to have precise control of fingers and hand movements;
experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines; and must be able to stoop,
crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, stand for periods of time, and lift in order to assist a student
with personal care. The employee is required to deal with distraught and/or angry
persons and is exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. The noise level in the
work environment to this particular environment can vary depending upon daily activity
but will remain within acceptable ranges.
