Electronics Technician - Security - Senior

The salary will be between $39,915 and $73,000 annually, plus excellent benefits. This classification is in the pay schedule/range 06-63. Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the transaction provisions of the Compensation Plan. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

A valid driver's license is required for select positions.

Position Summary:   Under supervision of the Superintendent of Buildings, this position will: maintain, repair, and calibrate the most advanced and complex electronic systems and equipment. This includes planning, design, and installation of modifications/expansion to existing electronic security systems as needed; providing design, implementation and oversight for preventative maintenance of electronic systems and equipment; consulting with Department engineers and contractors; assisting contractors with interfacing new electronic systems with current; maintaining and repair of emergency control systems; responding to calls for emergency repairs during off hours; guiding and training staff to use security systems, computers, and other electronic equipment; coordination of electronic systems maintenance and repair with other maintenance staff as needed; preparation of required operation reports; maintenance of program/data back-ups, history of electronic systems records and equipment use; inventory control of tools, parts, stock supplies, and keys; operating vehicles for assigned duties; and performance of other duties as assigned.

Systems and equipment include, but are not limited to, the following: complex closed circuit video surveillance systems; perimeter intrusion detection systems interconnected to the security control center; electronic door closures and locking systems; alarms; door security; master antenna television system; telephone system; state radio system; paging and intercom systems; smoke and fire alarms; computers and application software; as well as solid state controls in miscellaneous institution equipment, such as food service, automotive, and office machines.

Special Notes:   The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment. Applicants who fail or refuse the drug screen will not be given further consideration for employment.

Qualifications:   Knowledge of principles, practices, methods, material and techniques of the most advanced and complex electronic security hardware installation and repair; computer and security related electronic systems; function and use of test equipment such as test sources, test meters and oscilloscopes; institution rules, policies, procedures and philosophy. Ability to install, troubleshoot and repair systems containing tubes, semi-conductors and integrated circuits and a wide variety of specialized electronic equipment and computers; interpret drawings, specifications and schematics of complete systems; work effectively with contractors, consultants, engineers and staff.
