Crime Data Analyst

Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
Compiles, analyzes, and reports data to provide professional level data analysis and technical support to staff, programs and processes regarding various aspects of the criminal justice system. Work involves project and program support, state reporting, research reporting and process improvement initiatives to address issues of importance regarding the criminal justice system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Design, conduct, and evaluates research projects that apply valid techniques and use information obtained from baseline or historical data to structure true and efficient analyses towards support of the operations and goals of the Criminal Justice Collaborating Council and Sheriff's Office.
  • Process large amounts of data for statistical modeling and graphic analysis;
  • Perform validation testing of statistical models to ensure adequacy and reformulate models as necessary
  • Conduct analytical investigations and trend analyses to determine potential alternative courses of action and recommendations to achieve the best outcomes
  • Analyze data and generate reports to assist project managers in recommending policy, procedural, or legislative changes based on the analysis of data
  • Work with Sheriff's Office and CJCC to identify, analyze and resolve data concerns
  • Develop appropriate methodologies for collecting, analyzing, and presenting data
  • Maintain research and analytical skills and awareness of state-of-the-art development tools, programming and problem solving techniques, development and project management methodologies, and information technology equipment
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of statistics and the ability to use statistics to analyze information to draw concrete inferences and conclusions
  • Knowledge and ability to use reporting tools such as Crystal Reports
  • Ability to manage projects from conception through successful implementation, providing accurate estimates of time and resource requirements
  • Ability to accurately perform detailed work with minimal specific direction or supervision, to work under pressure to meet target dates, and deal with multiple priorities
  • Ability to apply the principles and techniques of system analysi9s and design to work with departments to identify application requirements, evaluate available options, and implement or develop new applications
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to develop and deliver clear and concise information for intended audience
  • Ability and skill to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with those contracted in the course of work
  • A high level of proficiency in data warehousing and mining with relational database and spreadsheet applications including Access, SQL, SPS, MS SQL
