Homework Help Lead Tutor

Hennepin County Library (HCL) is seeking enthusiastic and
creative Homework Help Lead Tutors who are passionate about
serving youth and families, to manage the delivery of the K-12
Homework Help afterschool tutoring service at multiple Hennepin
County Libraries: Minneapolis Central Library, Northeast Library,
Webber Park Library, and at the Cedar Riverside Opportunity
Center. The goals of this program are to help children and young
people master academic concepts, and to complete homework
assignments. Lead Tutors are responsible for providing academic
and social support to students, overseeing the day-to-day program
activities, managing the program space, and supporting volunteer
tutors.

These are limited duration (temporary), non-benefit earning
positions. These positions will be for the duration of January
2018 through May 2018 and returning September 2018 through May
2019. Lead Tutors work approximately 12-15 hours per week during
afternoon and evening hours. Hours will vary depending on
location.

Minneapolis Central Library: Tuesday and Thursday 4 p.m. to 8
p.m.
Northeast Library: Wednesday and Thursday 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Cedar Riverside Opportunity Center: Tuesday and Thursday 3 p.m.
to 7 p.m.
Webber Park Library: Tuesday 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with the
option to work additional hours, Monday and Thursday at the North
Regional Library.

The primary duties and responsibilities of these positions
include: •Provide tutoring services to children and teens in
grades K-12.
•Set up, start, and end program at publicized times.
•Ensure that the Homework Help program flows smoothly.
•Provide orientation, support, and some training to volunteer
tutors.
•Collect and report program data such as monthly attendance
numbers and administer student surveys.
•Become familiar with and promote library resources to
students, families, and volunteers.
•Attend required meetings and training sessions.
Best Qualified Candidates will have: •Graduated from high
school and completed some post-high school education.
•Availability to work during program hours which include
afternoons and evenings.
•Experience: ◦Teaching or tutoring.
◦Working with children and/or teens in a work or volunteer
setting.
◦Managing volunteers.
◦Leading or managing a youth program.

•Strong knowledge in literacy and mathematical concepts, and
familiarity with best practices in tutoring or academic skill
building practices.
•Strong organizational and communication skills.
•Basic computer skills, including the ability to navigate
online systems and email.
•Ability to work with multiple audiences, including children,
families, volunteers, and staff members.
