State Bridge & Structures Architect - Bridge Engineer 7 (In-Training)

The Opportunity: WSDOT is seeking a well-seasoned State Bridge and Structures Architect to join our Tumwater Bridge Office. This highly instrumental position is responsible for the aesthetic quality of the architecture composition of statewide transportation bridges and structures. The State Bridge and Structures Architect acts as the liaison between structural bridge designers and key city and regional leaders.

*Note: This position has an in-training plan that can be filled at either the Bridge Engineer 4 Level, Bridge Engineer 5 Level, Bridge Engineer 6 Level, or Bridge Engineer 7 Level. The salaries for each position are:
 
          Bridge Engineer 4: $62,748 - $82,344 depending upon qualifications
          Bridge Engineer 5: $69,240 - $90,888 depending upon qualifications
          Bridge Engineer 6: $76,464 - $100,344 depending upon qualifications
          Bridge Engineer 7: $84,384 - $110,724 depending upon qualifications

This position will perform the following work:

  • Manage Architecture applications.
  • Develop aesthetic policy, provide visual and conceptual guidance for the statewide design of bridge and transportation structures.
  • Approve all bridge preliminary plans for conformance to the architectural requirements.
  • Perform intricate structural design tasks for complex structures for the State Bridge Design Engineer and design unit supervisors.
  • Determine advance planning, scheduling and coordination of project requirements.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary design teams.
  • Supervise the preparation of visual imaging sketches, exhibits, and digital models of proposed bridges and transportation structures for presentation.
  • Coordinate with the Transportation Improvement Board and Highway and Local Programs Office on local agency projects.
 
Position Requirements:
  • Degree in Architecture or Civil Engineering.
  • Washington State Professional Civil Engineering License.
  • A minimum of 10 years of Bridge Structural Analysis.
  • Ability to communicate aesthetic values.
  • Ability to produce graphic visualizations.
  • Ability to perform bridge structural design calculations.
  • Knowledge of architectural design standards, policies, and procedures
